Certification Course vs Vocational Course
Students who enroll into Western Music (levels and grades), Carnatic Music (levels and grades) are to receive a grade and a certificate at the end of their course or provided by the Thavam Music Academy. However, those who do not wish to complete assessments and be evaluated or graded for a course may choose an Appraisement course.
Please note that once a student selects to “Appraisement” a course, the student will automatically be considered as an “Appraisement” student for all the subsequent levels in the program.
For an Appraisement student who wants to come back as a credit student, the student may re-enroll into the courses after completing the pre-requisites and complete assessments and gain a Credit Certificate.
Assessment and Grading Policy for Certification Courses
Students in grade programs are certified with thavam Music Academy on their final assessments. Each student’s grade will depend on the total marks in practical and theory of music assigned by Thavam Music Academy Those who do not wish to complete assessments beyond the exam date , the student will be automatically considered for an Vocational Course. In case the student misses the exams for valuable reasons, who can get a chance to attend the next exam released by Thavam Music Academy
Grading
Thavam Music Academy provides ISO standardized grade certificate to the students at the end of each grade level
Thavam Music Academy also provides grade certificates based on (Trinity/ABRSM/Global center of arts – Griffin College London international examination board UK)
Certificates and vocational received by the student at the end of a course will be based on the following grade levels
Vocational Course
- The Academy will NOT provide any certificate for appraisement courses.
- For Vocational courses, the student would not be required to submit any assessments.
- A student may opt to take an "Vocational" course within the first five classes of a course
- Academy may suggest students to choose an opt courses after demo with the evaluation. It will help students to choose opt courses.
- The teacher will assess the student in the final class and evaluate the student to promote them to the next course or suggest Add-on classes (or in some cases, repeat the current course).
- If the student has chosen to get Credit for the course but fails to complete an evaluation process before the due date, the teacher reschedules the evaluation date before moving on to the next level.
The Course of Studies and Practice
- Each subject is divided into 8 Grades.( Yoga, Chess and Drawing applicable for certification course) The duration of each grade shall be 4- 6 months.
- For the First 3 grades minimum 40 hrs of classes must be conducted in 4-6 months. Classes shall be for 2-3 days in a week and one hour per day.
- For the Grades from 4th to 8th, minimum 80 hrs classes must be conducted in duration of 6 months. Classes shall be for 2 days in a week and two hours in duration for each day
- There shall be practical for the First 2 Grades and for the 3rd grade until the 7th grade there shall be the Practical exams along with the written examinations. For the students of 8th Grade, there shall be a Stage Performance/ Creative Performance (Arangetram) along with Written Examination.
- All the Certification courses will be conducted up to 6-8 months duration.
- The Special classes and lectures will be given through in person and Online.
- The Practical Exams must be conducted in person and Online according to the curriculum.
Rules and Regulations for the students
- Those Students who join the course of study shall not be less than 5 years of age.. There is no maximum age limit prescribed.No academic qualification needed
- Students who get promoted in each grade will be qualified for the next grade
- Students are eligible for lateral entry. They should pay an entrance examination fee and qualify to enter the Third or Fourth stage. Examination will be conducted through video conferencing or in person with Thavam Music Academy else in various centers appointed by Thavam Music Academy
- Students who have not passed the examination shall be allowed to sit for the Supplementary test only after remitting the prescribed examination fee.
- Evaluation of the Practical Examination shall be done through the Video Conference or in person by Thavam Music Academy. This rule is relevant to the practical examination, and for the written exam.
- Grade skipping is allowed only up to Grade -4
